Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding and her DJ boyfriend Tom Crane flew back into Heathrow last night – their first time on British soil as an engaged couple.
An extremely tanned and ecstatically happy Sarah, 29, flashed her sapphire and engagement ring with pride – though kept on her dark glasses to hide the effects of a 13-hour flight.
Tom, 30, had whisked away his popstar and actress girlfriend to the Maldives for a romantic break over the festive season – and got down on one knee on New Year’s Eve.
A delighted Harding, 29, said ‘yes’ immediately and posting on his official Twitter page afterwards, Crane said: ‘A late happy new year to you all… I feel like the luckiest man in the world!!!’
Shortly after the announcement, he happily responded to all the good wishes from fans of his girlfriend, saying: ‘@sarahaddicts thanks for all your support ladies. Happy New Year!’
Insiders close to the couple said at the time: ‘Sarah had no idea what Tom was planning… She didn’t see it coming at all.’
Tom is thought to have bought the ring some weeks ago from Hatton Gardens in London, and secretly stowed it in his luggage before the pair flew out to the Indian Ocean islands just after Christmas.
The jewel appears to be a classic Princess Diana-style gold band with a sapphire surrounded by diamonds.
The couple have been dating since June 2007 but briefly split in 2008.
However, they reunited, and have since grown even closer than ever since going into business together – Tom is the resident DJ at Sarah’s London nightclub Kanaloa – and setting up home last year.
According to reports today, the pair are set to throw two engagement parties – unsurprising for a pair notorious for their love of night life.
A wedding date has yet to be set however.
Tom has previously said: ‘I know the kind of ring Sarah wants. I want an old-fashioned English wedding. I want the top and tails, more subtle than a celebrity wedding.’
Harding previously dated showbiz journalist Joe Mott and singer Mikey Green, who she met on Popstars: The Rivals – where Girls Aloud were first formed.
The engagement comes barely three months after her Girls Aloud bandmate Nadine Coyle announced she had got engaged to her boyfriend Jason Bell.

Pop princess Sarah Harding has been given an engagement ring similar to Princess Diana’s.
The Girls Aloud singer flashed the expensive ring as she walked through Heathrow airport with fiancé DJ Tom Crane.
The ring bares similarities to Princess Diana’s oval blue 18-carat sapphire and diamond ring which Prince William gave to Kate Middleton when he proposed.
Walking through Heathrow airport, a smiling Sarah, wearing shades, a grey jumpsuit and black jacket, looked refreshed following her New Year holiday in the Maldives.
Fiance Tom got down on one knee on New Year’s Eve and proposed to his girlfriend of more than three years.

Its rumoured in the press today that Sarah and Tommy are engaged. After Tommys tweet last night we suspect this could be true.
