Sarah talking about Masterchef

The pressure is on as TV Times meet the first batch of stars stepping up to the hotplate for the 10th series of Celebrity MasterChef…

Former Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding is certainly up for a challenge this summer. Not content with taking on the fearsome Tracy Barlow next month when she joins the Coronation Street cast, she’s also putting her slicing and dicing skills to the test in 2015’s Celebrity MasterChef (premieres BBC1, Thursday, June 18).

Was it scary walking into the MasterChef kitchen for the first time?
“It felt like my first day at school – I was really scared, but like they say, if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!”

Why did you want to take part?
“MasterChef’s an opportunity you simply can’t turn down, especially when you’re as big a foodie as I am. I’ve loved spending time in the kitchen since I was little, experimenting with recipes and adding my own spin. I never get bored of cooking.”

What kind of a cook are you?
“I’d say fairly good. Not the best in the world, but I’ve had no complaints!”

What’s your signature dish?
“Probably my Spanish Chicken. I also love Italian food and do a good Spaghetti Bolognese.”

How were your nerves on the first day?
“I was so nervous. I usually cook in my kitchen on my own, with my music playing, patio doors open and take my time, experimenting as I go along. I’d never cooked to a time limit or with people watching! It was daunting, but I got used to it.”

How did you find John and Gregg?
“They’re geniuses in the kitchen. You know they’re there to judge you so you’re wary at first, but nothing feels better than a bit of positive feedback from them.”

Any notable disasters or triumphs?
“Thankfully nothing went too drastically wrong. I had a few clumsy moments, which I put down to nerves. I think it’s only natural under that amount of pressure.”

Did you learn anything?
“I learnt that with food the sky’s the limit.”

What’s the MasterChef dream?
“You always enter a competition to win, otherwise there’s no point in taking part. You’ll have to watch to see how I do!”

Celebrity Masterchef is about to get a whole lot noisier as joining this year’s competition is reality-show royalty Rylan Clark.

Clark shot to fame after coming fifth in the ninth series of The X Factor, going on to win Celebrity Big Brother the next year – a show he now co-hosts.

Joining him in the kitchen will be Keith Chegwin, Chesney Hawkes and Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding as well as Strictly Come Dancing alumni, dancer Natalie Lowe and former judge Arlene Phillips.
The line-up for the BBC One show, hosted by John Torode and Gregg Wallace, includes actress Amanda Donohoe, Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and comic Syd Little.

Also featured are actors Scott Maslen, Sheree Murphy, Tish Potter, Craig Gazey, singer Mica Paris and Tom Parker from The Wanted along with TV presenters Sam Nixon; Andy Akinwolere, Yvette Fielding, journalist Samira Ahmed and paralympian Danny Crates.

Executive producer Carla-Maria Lawson said: “This year’s intake of celebrities are amongst the most skilled to brave the MasterChef challenge. Their culinary journey makes for a thoroughly entertaining and thrilling ride.”

The 12 episode show will see the celebrities face invention tests and have to cook for its hosts and work with professional chefs.

Previous winners include Lisa Faulkner, Jayne Middlemiss and Matt Dawson.

The 20 contestants who will be testing their culinary prowess on this year’s Celebrity MasterChef have been revealed and include Keith Chegwin, Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding and Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark.

Also taking part in the six-week contest are choreographer Arlene Phillips, Strictly Come Dancing professional Natalie Lowe, veteran singer Chesney Hawkes, Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, Radio 4 broadcaster Samira Ahmed, The Wanted frontman Tom Parker, former Blue Peter presenter Andy Akinwolere, ghost-hunter Yvette Fielding, British Paralympian world record-holder Danny Crates, comedian Syd Little, presenter Sam Nixon, soul singer Mica Paris, and actors Scott Maslen, Patricia Potter, Craig Gazey, Amanda Donohue and Sheree Murphy.
The tenth series of the show will once again be judged by Gregg Wallace and John Torode, and will begin with four weeks of heats, in which five celebrities at a time will face the invention test, be sent to a professional kitchen to dish up for real customers, and prepare a two-course dinner. The following night the remaining four will have to cook in relay, mass cater and impress past MasterChef champions.

Ade Edmondson, Phil Vickery and Lisa Faulkner have won in previous years, with actress Sophie Thompson winning the trophy in 2014.
Executive Producers Karen Ross and David Ambler, said: “This year’s Celebrity MasterChef sees more catastrophes, competitiveness, disasters and edge of seat moments than we have ever come across before. Marry that with some of the most delightful, determined and inspired cooks producing some truly amazing food and we have a competition that is really fitting for our tenth anniversary!”
