Good Life for Sarah

AMUSED friends of SARAH HARDING and boyfriend TOM CRANE have dubbed the couple Tom and Barbara from 1970s TV show The Good Life, since they became obsessed with growing fruit and veg.

The GIRLS ALOUD singer and club DJ Tom, one of the showbiz world’s best known partying couples, are constantly talking about the fresh, organic produce they grow at their £1million country retreat near Aylesbury, Bucks.

They have even posted snaps of their beloved carrots, blackberries and runner beans on social networking sites on the internet to show friends how well their garden is doing.

A source reveals: “They’ll always love a good knees-up and have spent a lot of the summer in Ibiza with Tom working, but now they’re back Sarah and Tom are becoming more like Tom and Barbara every day.

“They love being out in the garden, deciding what to plant and tending to the vegetables and they talk about it non-stop, complete with pictures on Facebook. They’ve even been talking about getting some chickens or ducks.

“Lots of her friends have started calling her Barbara or Babs because if you visit you get a seat at the kitchen table and are offered everything from strawberries to a plate of raw veg to munch on.

“She absolutely loves it, especially while she’s trying to detox after a few weeks of constant partying. It’s as if she’s living up to this image she’s created but is much happier pulling out weeds and picking fruit. “

In the hit BBC show, which ran from 1975-1978, Richard Briers’ character Tom Good reaches his 40th birthday and decides to quit the rat race so he and wife Barbara, played by Felicity Kendal, can become completely self-sufficient.

They live next door to social butterflies Jerry and Margot Leadbetter, played by Paul Eddington and Penelope Keith, who are horrified by some of their neighbours’ attempts at living off the land.

Earlier this year Sarah, 28, admitted: “I still come to London quite a bit for work, but I like the space and serenity I get in my garden.”
